The Gallery page shows images of Ceramics work by Joe Ottaway, teacher and owner at Oxide Clay Art.
Also displayed are some pieces made by Oxide Clay Art Students. Beginning students are usually able to complete several finished, glazed pieces during the 5 week pottery courses. These works feature the use of beautiful stoneware reduction fired glazes.
The pieces are made using Walkers No 10 clay and are bisque fired, glazed and then fired again in a gas kiln to 1300 degrees centigrade.

Artist Statement – Ovula Series
These pieces are derived from a study of the forms and surfaces of Cowrie shells and in more general terms relate to my experience of the ocean and beaches of Queensland.
Other influences include Chinese and Japanese Ceramics and Minimalist Art.
The pieces are wheel thrown using porcelain and are fired to 1300 degrees centigrade in a gas kiln. Metallic lustres are then applied and the pieces fired again to 770 degrees centigrade.

Gallery of Student works.
The Gallery of Student works features pieces by beginning students as well as those with some experience.
The glazes used are include Satin White, Celadon Green, Chun Blue, Dark Blue, Copper Red, Tenmoku and Clear. Iron oxide slip and underglaze colours are also often applied to the pieces before glazing. Most of the works show to use of more than one glaze on each piece. This use of multiple glazes and the overlapping of glaze colours further extends the colour palette and provides some exciting and at times unexpected results.
